What Is EyePrintPRO™?

EyePrintPRO™ is a custom-designed lens that starts with an impression of the eye’s surface, similar in concept to a dental mold. That impression is scanned and used to create a lens that follows the exact shape and contour of your eye.

Unlike standard soft lenses or even many scleral lenses, EyePrintPRO™ is built for eyes that are truly one-of-a-kind. The result is a lens that can vault over irregularities, protect the ocular surface, and provide stable vision when other options have failed.

Who Is EyePrintPRO™ For?

EyePrintPRO™ is typically recommended for patients with complex or medically necessary needs. You may be considered for EyePrintPRO™ if you have:

  • Keratoconus or corneal ectasia
  • Post-surgical or post-trauma irregular corneas
  • Severe ocular surface disease or dry eye
  • A history of contact lens intolerance, where other specialty designs have not provided adequate comfort or vision

Some patients are referred to us specifically for EyePrintPRO™ after trying multiple other lens designs. Our goal is to determine whether this level of customization is likely to offer a meaningful improvement in comfort, clarity, or both.

Why Eye Rx - Chevy Chase for EyePrintPRO™?

Eye Rx Chevy Chase serves as the primary EyePrintPRO™ fitting centre within the Eye Rx network and is a regional destination for complex specialty lens care. Patients come to this location from across Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Northwest DC, and beyond after being told there are “no other lens options” or that they are “too difficult to fit.”

The EyePrintPRO™ Fitting Process

Your EyePrintPRO™ fitting begins with a specialty contact lens consultation. We review your medical history, past lens experiences, and current symptoms, and examine the front and back of your eye. Corneal imaging and other diagnostics help us understand the full extent of your corneal irregularities or surface disease.

If you are a suitable candidate for EyePrintPRO™, we proceed with the impression. A gentle, single-use material is placed on the eye to capture its precise shape. The process is quick, and most patients describe it as unusual but not painful. That impression is then used to design a lens that matches your eye’s topography.

Custom Lens Design & First Fitting

Once your EyePrintPRO™ lens is manufactured, you’ll return to our Chevy Chase office for your initial fitting. During this visit, we:

  • Evaluate how the lens aligns with your eye
  • Check for proper clearance and edge alignment
  • Measure visual acuity and comfort with the lens in place.

If adjustments are needed, we work with the EyePrintPRO™ design team to refine the lens. It is common to make small changes early in the process to ensure the best long-term fit and performance.

Living With EyePrintPRO™

Because the lens is designed precisely for your eye, many patients notice a significant improvement in stability and comfort compared to previous lenses. You’ll insert and remove EyePrintPRO™ lenses at home, care for them with recommended solutions, and wear them during the day to support vision and protect the ocular surface.

We provide detailed training on insertion, removal, and lens care, and our team remains available if you need additional support. Follow-up visits allow us to confirm that the lens continues to fit well, your cornea remains healthy, and your visual goals are being met.

EyePrintPRO™ offers a fully custom, impression-based design that can create clearer, more consistent optics for these patients, especially when traditional soft or gas-permeable lenses do not perform well.

Because EyePrintPRO™ matches the exact contour of the eye, it can help improve lens stability, reduce visual fluctuations, and maximize functional vision for myopic patients with complex corneal shapes.

We use EyePrintPRO™ when a patient’s myopia is combined with irregular astigmatism, prior corneal surgery, or surface disease that makes other lens designs difficult to wear.
